Archerfield House
Set within a vast private estate on the East Lothian coast, Archerfield House offers a wedding experience that feels both exclusive and expansive. With sweeping views, grand architecture, and a strong sense of privacy, it is a venue designed for couples who want their wedding to feel immersive rather than simply well staged. Everything about Archerfield suggests space, calm, and confidence, making it particularly well suited to weddings that unfold over time rather than rushing from one moment to the next.
The house itself provides a striking focal point. Elegant without being ornate, it offers generous rooms, high ceilings, and large windows that allow natural light to shape the atmosphere throughout the day. From a photographic point of view, this balance of scale and restraint is important. The setting feels impressive, but it never overwhelms the people within it. This allows photographs to carry a sense of grandeur while remaining emotionally grounded and personal.
One of Archerfield’s defining strengths is the freedom it offers couples. With multiple spaces available across the estate, weddings here tend to feel bespoke rather than formulaic. Ceremonies, receptions, and evening celebrations can be arranged to suit both the practicalities of the day and the tone the couple wants to set. That flexibility encourages a natural flow, where moments develop organically rather than being tightly managed, which in turn leads to more authentic imagery.
The surrounding grounds are integral to the experience. Open parkland, mature trees, and distant coastal views provide a sense of openness that is rare so close to Edinburgh. Portraits here often feel unhurried and reflective, shaped by movement through the landscape rather than a fixed spot. Even brief walks away from the main gathering can produce images that feel spacious and calm, offering contrast to the sociable energy of the celebrations.
Having photographed weddings at Archerfield House, I understand how the estate works as a whole rather than as a single backdrop. Light changes subtly across the grounds, and the scale of the venue rewards an approach that is observant rather than directive. My role as Lee Live: Wedding Photographer is to work quietly within that space, capturing both the breadth of the setting and the smaller, more intimate moments that give the day its emotional weight.
