Carberry Tower
Set within expansive parkland just outside Edinburgh, Carberry Tower offers a wedding setting that feels calm, romantic, and quietly impressive. This historic country house combines the elegance of a private estate with the ease of a well-run luxury venue, making it particularly appealing to couples who want space, privacy, and a sense of occasion without formality feeling overwhelming.
The scale of the grounds is one of Carberry Tower’s defining features. With over thirty-five acres of landscaped gardens and mature woodland, there is a natural rhythm to the day as guests move between spaces rather than remaining rooted to one room. From a photography point of view, this is a gift. The changing scenery allows for a varied visual story, from wide, open portraits that show the setting in full to quieter moments tucked away among trees, pathways, and garden walls.
The private chapel is a standout feature. Located within the estate, it offers a ceremony space that feels both intimate and distinctive. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows look out onto a walled garden, allowing natural light to flood the room while maintaining a sense of enclosure and focus. This balance of openness and privacy creates photographs that feel serene and emotionally grounded, with the outside world present but gently held at bay.
Following the ceremony, the transition to the Pavilion for the wedding breakfast feels natural and unforced. Its proximity to the chapel keeps the day flowing smoothly, while the space itself comfortably accommodates larger guest numbers without losing warmth. Evening celebrations can then spread across several areas of the house and grounds, which encourages movement, conversation, and a more relaxed atmosphere as the formalities give way to celebration.
As a venue that also offers on-site accommodation, Carberry Tower allows the wedding day to unfold without haste. Preparations, celebrations, and the quieter end-of-night moments all happen in one place, giving the entire experience a sense of continuity. Having photographed weddings here, I understand how the light shifts across the estate throughout the day and how best to work with the layout, ensuring the setting enhances the story while keeping the focus firmly on the people and their relationships.
